My wife and I have been devoted Rob Grill and Grass Roots fans for many, many years. In our opinion Rob Grill epitomized all that was good about the true American music of the 50's through the 70's. He was the consumate performer and in the many shows we were priviledged to attend, his love for the music of the Grass Roots, his love of performing, and most important, his love for his fans was so obvious to all who watched him and his band. How he loved to work a crowd and you could always tell that he knew everyone there loved him and the Grass Roots. He always would close with "Midnight Confessions" and with some comment about knowing how to "throw a party". I'm sure those infamous musical Rob Grill "parties" are now being performed in Heaven. May God bless Rob, Nancy and the members of the Grass Roots as they all cope with this sudden and untimely loss. Know that the memories of Rob, his band, and his music will always be special to us and know also that all of his music will live on forever, as he will in all of our hearts. We will truly miss the one and only, Rob Grill. Rest in peace Rob.

RIP Rob. We saw you at a concert a few years back in Las Vegas and you sounded great...Brought back many wonderful memories of my childhood. I am 55 now and cannot say how terrific I felt when I walked away from that concert that night. We sat not more than 3 feet from you! The Grassroots were always one of my favorite bands and you were the main reason. We bought tickets for The Capital One Theater in Westbury, NY a couple of years ago and was so disappointed to see you not there. Although we later found out why (that you were ill) the show was not the same without you. Rest in Peace, Rob.

Nancy, my heart goes out to you and your family during this time. I adored Rob and loved seeing the both of you at Jack and Liz's. Our thoughts are with you during this time of sorrow. Love Naomi and Rick Bourgoin

From a huge Grass Roots fan who only had one opportunity to see them, way back in 1973, my condolences. Great group, great music, led by a fine musician.

Cathy - snei53@hotmail.com

Mrs Rob, You smiled when we call you that at Epcot. We had so many good times there. I am very grateful for Rob's music, and actually had the chance to personally thank him. It just meant so much to me. I will always remember the days of putting on eye patches at his concerts to mimic his pirate AYE. He touched so many lives, I hope it will be some comfort to know how much we all loved him. It will be hard to go to the concerts this spring, but know he will always be on our minds..

Rob Grill and the Grass Roots were one of my all-time favorite bands growing up, and I had the fortunate opportunity to see them a few times. Thank YOU Rob for all the music and all the memories. We love you, we will miss you BUT you will live on forever in your music and in the hearts of all your fans. Our thoughts and prayers to Nancy, his family and friends. Please know that we share in your loss. RIP Rob God Bless You.

Nancy, You are in my prayers at this sad time. I wonder if you would consider writing a book so that Rob's life and legacy can be preserved along with his music? As Rob was one of the true rock legends with millions of fans it should logically be you, who knew him best, to tell his story in a way that will truly do him justice. It has been said that "there is a book in everyone"; Rob's life was surely unique and has touched multitudes. Many of us see Rob and you as great inspirations in a world that longs for "ordinary heroes" who have over come great adversity. Rob surely has shared with us the value of dedication, and the art of maintaining hope in spite of the circumstances.

Dear Nancy: I've read your comments on the Grass Roots fan web site. Your love for Rob is truly inspiring. He was lucky to have you be his wife. May I extended my most sincerest sympathies on Rob's passing. So sad that this happened to him, and you, and all who knew and loved him. I saw him in person in Syracuse NY in the early 80s, with the Turtles, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, and another group. Rob was absolutely the standout of all of the performers. And, yes, wasn't he incredibly handsome!!! At a little tavern in my neighborhood, we played Grass Roots songs all night on Thursday, July 14th. But we also have an "older" group of people who stop in on Saturday afternoons, and we all play lots of oldies, with the Grass Roots being the number one band we play. To Rob ... Thanks for the memories. It was the greatest of times, and you helped us make great memories. Nancy, may your loving memories of Rob be with you forever, and may they bring you comfort and joy for the rest of your life. You are a very lucky woman to have been his wife.

Nancy and family ... my condolences to you and your loved ones during this difficult time. Rob fought the good fight for many years ... now it's time for him to rest and reap his reward. Peace and love be with you.

Deb Young

Rob had the "IT" factor. His stage presence wasn't fake as he truly appreciated his audience and the shows became a shared event not just a show. He singled me out in the audience and shared my hand, head and arm movements thus even though many feet away we shared a moment in dance. He made each member of the audience feel that we were special to him. I bet he and Christian are making some great music together now in heaven. Alll my love and prayers to Nancy!

Mark in L.A.

Georganne La Piere Bartylak

I first met Rob when I was 15 and the Grass Roots played the Fantasy Fair at Devonshire Downs in Chatsworth, California in June of 1967. He was very kind to a young girl who had a huge "teenage crush" on him. I later went on to become friends with Rick Coonce as well - who also passed on earlier this year. It was with sadness that I learned of both of their passings and wish to send condolences to their families. Sincerely, Georganne La Piere (Bartylak)

May you dance in heaven Rob...No more pain and suffering. You will be missed by so many but your memories will live forever. I am so glad to have had the pleasure of knowing you and Nancy, and when Nancy brought a picture of you to give to my son that you autographed for me, meant so much. As you found out later that she taught my son at Umatilla H.S., and that you played with Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1972. It was the first concert I had ever attended and was in high school at that time. Little did I know we would cross paths and actually know one another after you met and married your soulmate Nancy. I will always hold the wonderful memories of that first concert near my heart, and miss running into you and Nancy at the old Publix in Mount Dora. Who would have thought? You were as genuine as anyone could possibly be. R.I.P. my friend. Your music will live forever. Thank you.

Dear Nancy & James, I have been a fan since 1966 of your husband and brother Rob and the Grass Roots. I was greatly encouraged by his wit, humor, and passion for his music. Luckily, I saw him in a 1998 Grass Roots concert in St Paul, MN, from the 3rd row. Rob outshined them all with his geniune passion for his fans & his music...clearly, Rob was a happy soul... and in Aug. 2011 Rob's spirit was at the Minnesota Grass Roots concert, could feel his presence there..."Heaven Knows" we will remember Rob. May God bless you all.
