Robert L. Freed

Robert L. Freed, 87, of Meadow Lands, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, in the Washington County Health Center.
He was born November 18, 1924 in Pittsburgh, the son of Joseph and Emma Drexler Freed.
Mr. Freed was a 1941 graduate of Dormont High School and attended the Pittsburgh Academy Business School.
He was a veteran having served with the 8th Air Force, 781st Bomb Squadron, 465th Battalion in Europe during World War II.
Mr. Freed retired in 1989 as credit manager for the Washington Hospital where he had worked for 15 years. Prior to his work at Washington Hospital, he had been employed by the former McGraw-Edison in Canonsburg, for more than 30 years.
He has been a member of the Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department since 1971 and was a member of the American Legion Post 902 in Houston.
Mr. Freed was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands.
On November 26, 1949, he married Rose Anna Unicek who survives.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Sharon Anne Akana (Carleton) of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Cynthia Louise Freed of Moon Township, PA; three grandchildren, Peter Vespignoni, Alicia Kelch and Justin Akana; and a great granddaughter Haley Ann Kelch. Mr. Freed will be fondly remembered by friends that he served with in the 781st Bomb Squadron; Charles (Bubba) Braud and his wife Mamie of Thibodaux, LA and John Zadrozny and his wife Helen of Fairhope.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8, Wednesday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with Rev. Carmen D'Amico as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. The family asks that everyone please meet at the church for Mass.
