Osceola-John Birong, 61, went to be with his Savior on Sunday, October 17, in his home after a struggle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
John was born on May 20, 1949 in Niles Michigan to Phillip and Sydney (Yazell) Birong. He went on to graduate from Buchanan High School. John was married to his wife, Denise A. Brooks, on August 16, 1975, in Granger, IN. He retired from his position of Director of Facilities Management at Memorial Hospital of South Bend in December, 2009.
John was preceded in death by his father, Phillip; sister, Deborah Birong; and brother, Phillip “Butch” Birong II. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Denise; his mother, Sydney; brother, Roger “Skip” Birong; sister, Carol (Bruce) Ruff; children, John Birong II, Dianne Birong, Shannon Barnes, Kelly Penewit, Phillip Birong and Hannah (Andrew) Troyer; as well as five grandchildren, Brandon Birong, Morgan Birong, Alexander Birong, Austin Troyer and Micah Penewit.
John's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow. He was known and loved for his sense of humor, which he carried with him through even the toughest times. His faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life and it gave him courage each day.
Visitation will be held in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka on Thursday, October 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 22 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Randy Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
