Robert Houston Rowland
January 29, 1926 - January 17, 2013
Age 86, longtime resident of Riverside county. Entered into Eternal Rest Thursday morning following recent illness and decline in health. Born in Erick Oklahoma, Robert was the beloved son of Sherman and Bette Rowland, and the beloved husband of 65 years to his wife Joye. Robert and Joye met one another while attending Pepperdine, and would eventually marry in 1947. Upon graduation, Robert and Joye served as missionaries in Alaska for seven years. It was during this time that they would welcome their two children (Bobby & Cynthia) into the world. Robert spent much of his career as a dedicated teacher, and for a few years as a principal in Arkansas. He was president of Columbia Christian College in Portland for ten years before going to Oklahoma Christian College for 25 years as director of the Citizenship Center and founder of the Free Enterprise Center (while also teaching a course in Entrepreneurship at OCC). A passionate educator and devoted guest preacher, Robert will be undoubtedly missed by all who came to know him, and will be remembered for the many talents, gifts, and knowledge that he shared. Robert is survived by his wife Joye, son Bobby, brother Rick, and cherished grandchildren: Uriah, Danielle, Micah, Caleb, Raphael and Hannah Joye. Robert now joins his late daughter Cynthia, and his parents in eternity. *Please see Funeral Info for services.
