Ronald D. Williams
March 24, 1936 - October 1, 2013
Ronald D. Williams, age 77, of Gettysburg, PA died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late Clyde E. & Marguerite (Welty) Williams. Ron was born in Waynesboro, PA on March 24, 1936. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley A. (Temple) Williams.
Ron graduated from Gettysburg High School in l955, was a four year member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, PA. He was co-owner of C.E. Williams & Sons in Gettysburg for many years retiring in 1978. Ron was a member of American Legion Post #202 in Gettysburg and was life member of the former Gettysburg Elks Club #1045.
In his lifetime Ron was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He in particular loved his hunting cabin in the mountains, as well as "his boys" camaraderie that was shared there. Every time he saw a deer, it was as though he was seeing it for the first time ever. He loved his family, and was a generous man with all he had to share. We will miss his "too make a short story long" stories, and "what have ya", as well as his huge sense of humor and his inability to give a straight answer. As husband, dad and grandfather he will be missed more than can be expressed. He was a huge man, with a huge heart and was hugely loved.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Scot M. Williams and wife Madelon of Ashburn, VA, two daughters; Dawn R. Heflin and her husband Rick, Tammy J. Hickey and her husband Ben both of Gettysburg, four grandchildren; Brittany Hickey, Cara Williams, Jacob and Rebekah Heflin and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Gregory Williams and two brothers; Clyde E. Williams, Jr. and William “Bill” Williams.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at noon from the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Serving as pallbearers will be Scot Williams, Ben Hickey, Rick Heflin, Todd Williams, Jim Williams, Adam Hoffman and Craig Robbins. A Viewing will be held on Friday, October 4th from 6-8 PM at the Monahan Funeral Home. The family request memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
