Jeffrey Scott Greene, 44, formerly of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at the home in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania on August 28, 2013. He was born December 31, 1968 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Cassius H. Greene Jr. and Sandra M. Chambers Greene. His father, both paternal and maternal grandparents, and one uncle preceded him in death. Jeffrey was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri public schools and was a graduate of Lincoln Academy, class of 1987. While at Lincoln he became an active member in the ROTC, where he was promoted to the rank of all city Colonel. With this title it allowed him to inspect all area high school ROTC units, and in 1986 he led the annual Veteran's Day Parade. Upon graduation Jeffrey attended Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas where he obtained an Engineering degree. On May 12, 1990 while at Prairie View A&M, he became a member of the Rho Theta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Tales from the underground, Jeff was the line time keeper Dog 15 also known as "WONDER DOG". He later attended classes at Devry Institute working towards his Masters degree. While at Prairie View A&M he joined the Army reserve and later transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard, serving his country for six years. During the Persian Gulf War he was stationed aboard the USS Coast Guard Dauntlius based out of Miami, Florida. While in Texas Jeffrey met and married Laryssa L. Mitchell of Missouri City, Texas and to this union one son, Jeffrey S. Greene II was born. This marriage was later dissolved. In Texas he was employed by Sprint, later transferring to MetroPCS in Florida. At the time of his passing he was employed with Verizon Wireless as a switch engineer in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. Jeff was an avid golfer that enjoyed instructing others as much as playing, he participated in tournaments alongside greats such as Tom Watson. He loved to cook especially BBQ, and had developed a strange palate where he would mix food combinations...the spicier the better. Every January Jeff would attend the Annual Electronics Convention in Las Vegas. He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Jeffrey S. Greene II, San Antonio, TX; his mother, Sandra M. Greene, Kansas City, MO; one sister, Andrea J. Greene, Kansas City, MO; one nephew, Cameron S. Fields, Kansas City, MO; one niece, Taylor Y. Collier, Kansas City, MO; three uncles; seven aunts; and a host of other friends and relatives; one special friend; Nora Penascino and her three children, Adara, Mariah, and Isaac. Jeffrey will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Redemption Church of God In Christ. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity services will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m. followed by family hour from 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery.
