Obituary
Gene B. Jenkins, 74, of Tifton, passed away at his home Sunday, July 21st 2013. He was surrounded by his loving family and special friend Kathy Burley. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25th, at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Services will be Friday, July 26th in Tifton at St. Anne's Episcopal Church at 5 p.m. with Father Lonnie Lacy officiating. A memorial interment will be held immediately following the service in the church garden. There will be a reception after the interment in the Parrish Hall of St. Anne's. He was born January 25th, 1939 in Lashmeet, West Virginia, where he spent his early years. He spent his career as a controller for Union Camp. He worked in Richmond, St. Louis, and Savannah before he came to Tifton in 1978. He became a regional comtroller in 1990, and then retired after 30 years of service with Union Camp. During his retirement he spent time in Atlanta and St. Augustine before settling in Tifton. His family remembers him as a patient, compassionate, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He always said he worked for the Lord; he spent many years being a vestryman, treasurer, and chairman of many committees while serving the Episcopal Church. Gene enjoyed the beach, reading, church work, watching sports, and watching his grandchildren in their many activities. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife of 37 years, JoeAnn Fisher Jenkins, Tifton; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Gina Jenkins, Canton, Ga., Robert and Tammy Jenkins, Spanishburg, W.Va., a daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Kenny Futch, Tifton. He is survived by 7 grandchildren, Josh, Jake, Jenna, Brandon, and Ben Jenkins, and Kendall and Keri Lee Futch. Special friends: Rita, Jack, and Kim Griffin, Kathy Burley, and Gail Walter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard W. Jenkins and Mildred Wilson Jenkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Meals On Wheels, P.O. Gene was so good to me when I was growing up. I remember him giving me money to go on my 7th grade band trip. This was back in 62 or 63. Always made people laugh. I wish we could have visited over the years, but distance made it impossible. God Bless his family and friends. I am a cousin from WV.
