William Dean “Bill” Lupkes, 68 years of age from Minden, NE died Monday, December 30, 2013 at his home southeast of Minden. Bill was born on March 16, 1945 in Worthington, MN to Aielt and Ethel (H.) Lupkes. He graduated from high school in Adrian, MN in 1963. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Germany from 1964 until 1968. On July 18, 1970 he married Lynette M. Persing in Wilmont, Minnesota. They moved to Minden in November of 1970. Bill worked in the areas of farming; as a mechanic and a welder, then later was a small engine mechanic at Landmark Implement and Mower Medic in Minden. Bill enjoyed his family, especially being with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, fishing and tinkering with small engines; and he loved his Minnesota Vikings. Survivors include his wife, Lynette of Minden; sons, Shawn and Mandi, Curt and Cassidy, and Craig and Jenni all of Minden; foster son, C. J. and Samantha Ewertz of Sterling, CO; and 8 grandchildren, Tyson, Gage, Gavin, Damian, Wyndser, Linda, Forest, and Evan; brothers; Roger and Henrietta of Rushmore, MN; Dennis of Sioux Falls, SD; Donald and Eileen of Tuscan, AZ; brothers and sister in laws; Vince and Theresa Persing, Lois Bullerman, Leland and Judy Persing, Colleen and Dennis Somnis, Marian and Dan Diekmann, Phyllis and Tom Scholtes, JoAnn and Rod Burkard, LeAnn and Doug Onken all of Minnesota; and Kathy and Lloyd Bullerman and Eileen and Larry Peterson of South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; brothers, Frances and Richard; sister, Janice; and brothers in law, Leonard Persing and Lorne Bullerman. Memorial services will be on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden with Pastor Ivan Schoone officiating. Burial will be in the Juniata Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Book signing will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Thursday from 5 " 7 p.m. A memorial has been established in Bill's name.
