Ernest C. Fugett, 90, of Beatrice died at his home on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. He was born on March 2, 1923 at Batesville, AR and graduated from Batesville High School. He served in the United States Coast Guard from March 14, 1942 to October 17, 1945; U.S. Navy from January 4, 1947 to June 17, 1947; Army Air Corps from June 18, 1947 to September 17, 1947; Air Force from September 18, 1947 to May 31, 1964; Air Force Reserve until May 21, 1974. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Medal for Humane Action (Berlin Air Lift), and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. He married Alta Mez on December 26, 1961 at the Richards-Gebaur AFB in Missouri. He was employed at Hoover Group/Tote Systems for many years during which time he was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local 543. He was a member of Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion of Beatrice. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gun shows and his grandchildren's activities. Survivors include his wife, Alta (Mez) of Beatrice; one step-son, Ronald Vogele and wife Carolyn of Wymore; four sons, Stephen Fugett and wife Kimberly of Beatrice, Randy Fugett of Holmesville, Frederick Fugett and Kelly Little of Hallam and Timothy Fugett and wife Stephanie of Beatrice; 12 grandchildren, Hannah Zimmerling, Emily Shockley, Jeremy Engelman, Amber Oakes, Anthony Fugett, Andrew Fugett, Jordan Bender, Trenten Fugett, Jacob Fugett, Jaden Fugett, Bryn Fugett, Sydney Fugett; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Emma (Gilbert) Fugett; one sister, Pauline (Fugett) Carpenter; twin granddaughters, Aliya and Aubrey Fugett. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Pastor David Cramer officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice Program and the American Lung Association. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion of Beatrice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 8:00 A.M.
