Obituary
Paul A. Soviar a 60 year resident of the Point/Shoreland Community passed away in his home on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the age of 89. Paul was born in Czechoslovakia to Andrew and Katerina (Mravec) Soviar who have both preceded him in death. He came to the United States at the age of 14. Paul worked as a tool and die maker for the former Modern Pattern, retiring in 1974. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army where he earned a Purple Heart along with 5 bronze stars. Paul was a life member of the VFW Post #3265, a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, enjoyed vegetable gardening and even had his garden prepared by hand for this coming season. He walked everyday at least 3 miles up until his last walk on Dec 15, 2010. Paul's greatest joy in life was loving and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death in addition to his parents by brother; Andrew, sister; Anna. Left to cherish his memory are loving wife of 62 years; Alice (Zablocki) Soviar, children: Janet Ellzey, Gerald (Mary Ann), Ronald (Karen), Michael (Michelle), Raymond (Susan) and Nancy (John) Myers, sister; Rosemary Walker, grand children; Amy Ellzey, Deanna and Kimberly Soviar, Stephanie (Paul) Richardson, Jeffery Soviar, Ryan Soviar, Chelsea Custer, Mark Soviar, Anna (Israel) Herrera, Katerina (Andrew) Asmus, Karissa Myers and Korinne (Austin) Turnbell, great grandchildren, Lucy, Ryan and Cade. Family will receive visitors in the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., (419.726.1583) on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 2 -8 pm. A Rosary will be said that evening at 7 pm. Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home at 10am on Friday, February 18, 2011 before continuing to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for Mass at 10:30 am conducted by Fr. Gerald Chmiel. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Lucas County Veterans Burial Corp will conduct services at the graveside. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Paul's name are asked to consider St. Vincent DePaul Society. I only met Paul on a couple occasions but I know him through his legacy. His family has influenced my life in many positive ways. I believe we know a man by the legacy he leaves and Paul seems to of left a GREAT LEGACY. Rest in Peace Paul know your job was well done. May God Bless The Soviars.
