He had four brothers: Gil, Tim, Henry, and Peter. Raised in the West, Clive finished high school in Cooperstown, NY; he then joined the Navy in 1967 and was based in Philadelphia where he met his wife of forty years, Trudy Averill. They moved to Denver in 1975 where they had two daughters, Heather and Ashley; and a grandson, Ollie. From his teen years on, Clive was interested in Civil War militariana and eventually collected the full equipment for a 19th century cavalry officer. He participated in many re-enactments including Gettysburg in 1988, where he surprised his fellow soldiers with a customized canteen converted to a stealth camera. He was a professional photographer and created his own business, Eagle Camera Repair, that catered to high-end photographers from all around the US. His art photos were seen in several exhibits in Colorado. He also combined his Civil War military interests with his photographic skills by re-creating the period’s style of photography using a large, vintage, glass-plate camera. Clive was an avid vintage-car racing enthusiast and will be remembered by all his fellow racers as a skillful driver who also helped many friends further their interests. Even though self-taught, all his friends recognized him as a brilliant mechanic who could fix any kind of car, no matter how rare the make. Everywhere else he proved a master MacGyver who regularly surprised his family and friends with the usefulness of almost anything. Clive passed on Wednesday night, March 5, 2013. Everyone who knew him will always remember his kind, soft-spoken presence. We will all miss the image of the red-bearded man in the cowboy hat and boots, wearing a well-used shirt with a patina of Valvoline, faded blue jeans -- and a friendly and open smile.
