Obituaries for Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home Obituary for Philip Ross Greaser(ALBION) Philip Ross Greaser, age 88, died at home on June 30, 2015. Born in Byrdstown, TN, Philip served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946, and then worked at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Philip studied pipe organ with Squire Haskin, organist at First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo, and served as organist at First Baptist Church of Albion for over 50 years. In 1987 he and his wife purchased the Albion First Presbyterian Church manse. Their historically sensitive restoration of this 1894 Queen Anne-style home designed by Rochester architect Andrew Jackson Warner was recognized with a Historic Home Award from the Landmark Society of Western New York in 2002. They had previously restored a 22-room brick house and its grounds in Eagle Harbor. Philip was predeceased by his parents Rev. L. Blanden Greaser and Neva Vos Pollock Greaser; sister Myrtle Ellen Thomas; and niece Laurie Jean Thomas. He is survived by Harriette, his wife of 51 years; sons James (Mary) Greaser of Rochester and W. Fenton (Margaret) Bonnice of Boston, MA; daughters Michelle Bonnice of Albion and Barbara (Harry Tachiki) Bonnice of Portland, OR; grandchildren Elizabeth, W. Ferris(ALBION) Melba E. Ferris, age 103, died 6/29/2015 in The Villages of Orleans following a long illness. She was born 2/11/1912 to Arthur and Edna(Lawton)Daum and had lived in this area for most of her life with the exception of a 15 year period when she lived in Batavia. Melba worked as a Seamstress for the Albion Novelty Company, as well as working for T.J. Lipton and Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital for many years. She wrote several Editorials for the Batavia Daily News in later years and was active in the Batavia Senior Center. Melba was an avid gardener, latch-hook rug maker and enjoy sewing and doing things with her hands. She took great pride in being one of the people who helped establish the Genesee County Animal Shelter. Mrs. Ferris was predeceased by her husband Scott in 1970. She was born in Lyndonville, NY in 1937 to Keith Fraser and Ella Loraine Whittier Fraser. She graduated from Albion (NY) High School in 1956. She married Ronald Nowack in 1957 and they moved to Hilton, NY where they raised three children. She worked as an LPN at Parkridge Nursing Home in Greece, NY in the 1970s. She later continued her education at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY, receiving an associate’s degree in medical records. In 1989 she married John Morton and moved to Richardson, TX where she worked as a medical records supervisor. In 1997 she and John moved to Richmond, VA where Pat earned a BS in Health Science at the age of 70 from Old Dominion University. In 2009 she and John moved to Cary, NC where Pat suffered a stroke on February 1st of this year. She was struck by another stroke on Sunday, June 21st and this stroke caused her death. She always valued doing the right thing and placed others before herself without exception. Caring for others brought her great joy and her joy made the world a better place. She had an intellectual curiosity and compassion that she passed on to her children and grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud. Her joyful spirit and wit were infectious even in the most difficult circumstances, making her a favorite among the therapists who worked with her over the last four months of stroke rehabilitation. Pat was always interested in having new adventures and exploring new interests. She became an enthusiastic basketball fan while living in North Carolina to the surprise of her family. It’s the family’s suspicion that Duke’s recent championship and Patricia’s recent enthusiasm for the sport are not a coincidence She is survived by her husband, John Morton; her first husband, Ronald Nowack (Jacksonville, FL); her daughter, Jeannine Lockwood (Baltimore, MD); her sons Steven Nowack (Greensboro, NC) and Craig Nowack (Washington, DC); her grandsons, Cody Nowack (Valencia, PA), Curt Nowack (Rochester, MI) and Elliot Lockwood (Baltimore, MD); and her granddaughter, Beatrix Lockwood (Baltimore, MD).
